in north carolina. in 2008, 51% of the electorate voted before election day. essentially, obama won the election before election day. john mccain won the election day vote but obama had already won the election in the early voting period. we have already had 1 million people voted north carolina. at this point, the democrats are doing better on the early voting, it appears. we don't have a vote count so we don't know exactly what the tally is. if you look at things -- we know things like number of active americans who have voted and that is up from the percentage who voted in 2008. percentage is greater this time at this juncture that was in 2008. the number of younger voters who tend to be more for obama than for running a, a greater percentage is up this time compared to 2008. those are all good signs for the obama campaign. but, what that will mean at the end, we don't know but the obama campaign had a good signal from that. host: we have a chart from an article in the "atlantic." it talks about absentee ballot request in north carolina. host: the democrats made a gain of about 9

took office. think of that. unemployment today is higher than on the day barack obama took office. he promised that he would propose a plan to save social security and medicare from insolvency. he didn't. rather, he raided $716 billion from medicare to pay for his obama care. he said he was going to lower health insurance premiums for the average family by $2,500 a year by now. and actually, they are now $3,000 higher for an average family. and gasoline, the american family now pays $2,000 a year more for gasoline than when he was elected. of course, he also said he was going to work across the aisle on the most important issues. listen to this, he has not met on the economy or on the budget or on jobs with either of the republican leader of the house or the senate since july. instead of bridging the divide, he's made it wider. now, how is it that he's fallen so short of what he promised? in part, it's because he has never led before. he had never worked across the aisle before. he never truly understood how jobs are created and the economy. and, of course, today he is now making new

candidates with just three days left to go until election day. barack obama and mitt romney are making the most of every minute. both are crisscrossing the country and hitting the crucial battleground states one last time. the president's first stop today was a rally in ohio where he told a cheering crowd that his economic ideas are working. he's also stumping in wisconsin, iowa, and virginia. all today. and as we mentioned, wisconsin is one of those critical swing states the candidates are concentrating on. and campaign workers on both sides are out knocking on doors, trying to get people to the polls. white house correspondent brianna keilar joining us live from milwaukee, wisconsin. it will be a while before the president speaks there, but you got a crowd and lots of music, nonetheless. >> that's right. and this crowd is eagerly awaiting not only the president but katy perry who will be performing a small concert before president obama. here in wisconsin it's all about for the obama campaign getting people out to vote now on election day. early voting wrapped up in this state yester

obama yesterday. after spending two days with brian williams the president asked for one more minute. it was that compass idea. this compass idea that president obama went out of his way to make sure he said there. the idea of the president having a compass that is true. that is basically the idea of character, of integrity. it's the idea of personal authenticity to an extent. that you know what a person stands for. that you know that person will stand for those things even when it's hard. because it is who they truly are. this is more than just being likable. this is the idea of personal substance that you can be counted on to do the right thing because you are who you say you are. you are not acting. this is a sort of intangible currency that campaigns are always competing for at every level. but it's particularly so at the end of big races where the people who haven't been persuaded by the more overt arguments and policy differences are the ones who are going to make the final decision. at the end of the day people who have no reason to vote one way or the other will vote for who
